The Donut Media crew just pulled off something absolutely wild – crossing the entire United States of America off-road in a 1996 Subaru SVX!
Of course, they couldn't just take this old 2-door street car without making a few upgrades, so Justin and the Donut crew enlisted the help of some local North Carolina-based off-road talent including LFD's very own lead engineer Jacob Frushtick! Jacob stepped up to help make this epic journey possible by crafting custom skid plates to protect the Subaru's vulnerable undercarriage. Spoiler alert...it was very much needed...
You'll see Jacob in Part 1 of the series, where he visits the shop, scans the bottom of the vehicle and returns with custom cut steel skid plates in hand.
Part 2 sees the Justin finish up the mods, do a little testing, and embark on the start of the journey.
Part 3 features LOTS of water, some gnarly rock crawls, and plenty of roadside mechanics work.
Part 4 brings the journey to a close, with nothing but thousands of miles of mountainous terrain standing in their way.
And finally, we catch up with Justin to review what went wrong (and right) with their off-road-ified Subaru SVX. For those not wanting to watch through the whole series (though trust us, it's totally worth the time), Jacob's skid plates held up pretty well considering the heavy duty abuse they were subjected to.
Huge THANK YOU to Justin and the whole Donut crew for inviting us to help out with this project! It was a huge honor to be able to contribute to something that can put smiles on faces, provide some pure entertainment, and maybe even inspire some people to get up and get outdoors for a while.
